Official: Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange.
It’s official, folks. Boringface Cucumbersandwich has landed the lead in Doctor Strange. Make of that what you will.
Although it was reported near the end of October that Benedict Cumberbatch was in final negotiations to take the role of Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme in the ‘Doctor Strange’ movie, it took the studio until today to make the casting official. Marvel has sent out a formal announcement declaring Cumberbatch’s casting, while also offering a brief synopsis of their upcoming film.
After months of searching and speculation, Marvel finally circled back to their original choice for ‘Doctor Strange’: Benedict Cumberbatch. And today Marvel has made the casting officially official. No take backs. The announcement begins by stating “Benedict Cumberbatch has entered the world of the mystic arts,” before going on to give us a little plot synopsis from the film:
The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.
Producer and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also chimed in on the announcement:
Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.
Thoughts? I’m not particularly thrilled with the choice, but the dude is a good actor. So there’s that.
