Marvel dropping ‘LEGENDARY STAR-LORD’ series in July
Several things happen every time I see the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer. First, I apologize for hitting the person in front of me in the theater with my geek priapism. Second, I coo slowly at Chris Pratt, attempting to draw him out of the screen. Ala Last Action Hero. Third, I lament that I don’t read enough of the comics surrounding this Universe.
So Imma definitely snag this new on-going in an attempt to rectify at least one of those happenings.
“There was something about Star-Lord that I immediately gravitated to,” writer Sam Humphries told MTV News when asked what made him decide to pen Legendary Star-Lord for Marvel ahead of the release of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie this August. “Star-Lord was something that I felt I could have a blast with. He’s a charming motherf–ker! He’s a down-to-Earth individual. Everyone has a friend like Peter Quill. He’s cocky, he’s arrogant, but he’s always got your back.” As for his take on the character, it doesn’t sound as if he’ll be too different to his big screen counterpart played by Chris Pratt. “Peter sees himself as a legend because he can fly fast, and shoot fast, and flirt fast. But what really makes someone a legend are things buried in yourself that you didn’t know you had.” Star-Lord will still appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series, but this solo spin-off will seem him take on his own adventures, including a budding relationship with the X-Men’s Kitty Pryde! “You can’t get that more long distance than the Earth to the edge of the galaxy. They have this two-way holographic phone, and get to know each other across the stars, and see where this leads them. There’s this heat on both sides, but we’re going to see how their personalities actually mesh.” [Comic Book Movie]
