MARVEL and NETFLIX TEAMING UP FOR *FOUR* LIVE-ACTION SERIES. DEFENDERS, GET.
Holy amaze-balls. Marvel and Netflix are teaming up to bring into the world four live-action series starring Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil. That ain’t all, folks! All of these sonsofbitches will culminate in a Defenders event.
This rules.
All you Marvel fans better get a Netflix subscription if you don’t have one already! Marvel has announced that Netflix will air four new live-action Marvel superhero TV shows, based on Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Daredevil, along with a miniseries event based on the Defenders. The Defenders!
This is insane. Four new live-action superhero TV shows? all set in the the Marvel cinematic universe along with Agents of SHIELD? A miniseries based on Marvel’s oddest team, the Defenders?!
Deadline reports that the four series will be a minimum of 13-episodes long each, and be released over the course of several years, beginning in 2015. Here’s what Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment, had to say in the official press release:
“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty. This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”
Look, I know I joke about Marvel kicking DC’s ass in the live-action entertainment, but this is absurd. Metaphorically speaking, DC’s not even in the race any more. They’re standing around the start line, wondering which running shoes they should put on.
