‘BREAKING BAD’ creator VINCE GILLIGAN’S next show is ‘BATTLE CREEK’ ON CBS

Vince Gilligan.

Vincent Gilligan may have blown our Pop Culture Psyche’s collective butt hole inside out with Breaking Bad, but the dude ain’t just sitting around resting on his laurels. The good sir is turning his eyes towards network television, bringing to life  a show on CBS that he has been developing for quite some time.

While Vince Gilligan’s “Breaking Bad” is at the top tier of programs that are considered part of the new Golden Age of television, it’s easy to forget his first major success came on network TV, as a producer and writer on Fox’s “The X-Files.” And now he’s hoping to score some success again without the violence, sex and foul language that cable allows.

Variety reports that CBS has given a series order to “Battle Creek,” which has been sitting collecting dust at the studio since 2002, when Gilligan first started developing it. David Shore (“House”) will showrun the program alongside Gilligan, and it’s another crime drama of sorts, this time from the perspective of those who preserve law and order, focusing on a pair of mismatched detectives working in Battle Creek, Michigan who must “figure out if cynicism, guile and deception will help clean up the streets…or, if naivete and trust will get the job done.”

The plan is for the show, which will have a rumored 13-episode run, to air during the 2014-2015 season with Gilligan potentially directing some episodes as well. Needless to say, provided “Breaking Bad” doesn’t fumble the ending, everyone will be tuned in to see if Gilligan will strike gold again. And so will we.
