Here’s WHEDON on how Ultron will be different in ‘AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON.’
Ultron is going to be different in Avengers: Age of Ultron. We know that. We know that because he ain’t going to be created by Ant-Man, a fact that still has certain sects of geeks furiously ripping their pubes out in rage. But how is he going to differ? This week in Entertainment Weekly J-Whedon opened up (a little bit, duh) about his take on Ultron.
Joss Whedon, who wrote and will direct the character in 2015′s Avengers: Age of Ultron, recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly, discussing how he plans to make Ultron, a self-aware and nearly all-powerful robotic being, into a viable villain.
In the comics, Ultron can pretty much do anything. Imagine a robotic Superman. However, when choosing Ultron to be the villain in Avengers 2, Whedon realized if the character was too powerful, he wouldn’t be very interesting. Here’s what the director said to Entertainment Weekly about how he’s handling Ultron:
I knew right away what I wanted to do with him. He’s always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it, he’s got a bee in his bonnet. He’s not a happy guy, which means he’s an interesting guy. He’s got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we’ll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone [a new character, Scarlet Witch] who’s a witch.

FWIW, I’m still betting dollars to donuts that the Whedonverse Ultron is a machination rising out of Tony Stark’s brain.
