‘AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2’ got THE VULTURE TOO? STUFF IT TO THE GILLS WITH VILLAINS.
How many villains are too many villains for Amazing Spider-Man 2? Fucking no such things! Stuff it with a million-billion villains. Actually if this is setting up the Sinister Six, it could be dope.
Play List:
It seems the memo going around Hollywood right now is: “If you have rights to a comic book character, put them all in your next movie.” Bryan Singer seems obsessed with maxing out 20th Century Fox’s catalog of cartoons in “X-Men: Days Of Future Past,” while Joss Whedon is already teasing what new faces are going to pop up in “The Avengers 2” (Aaron Taylor-Johnson is already tipped to play Quicksilver). Now, it looks like “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” will be stacking the cast with more players ripped from the page.
What we know is already is that Rhino (Paul Giamatti), Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Harry Osborn/Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan) will all be stopping by and now, according to Comic Book Movie, Vulture will be spreading his wings. Colm Feore, who joined the cast earlier this year, will apparently be playing the part in what is supposed to be the building blocks of The Sinister Six. Sound outrageous? It’s not really as last year, producers Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad were already teasing this was the direction the series was going in. As for which villains will fill the other two slots (The Sinister Six had a variety of incarnations in the comics) that remains to be seen.
If you’re playing catch-up, Sinister Six was a group spearheaded by Doctor Octopus — that also included Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, and Sandman — to finally defeat Spider-Man. So there are a lot of options in terms of villains to add, but it also depend on which ones Fox has the rights to.
As Spidey fans know, Sam Raimi’s mooted fourth movie that never happened would’ve had John Malkovich play The Vulture, with Anne Hathaway as Black Cat. Whether elements of that story will find their way into this series remains to be seen. But is this too much? “Spider-Man 3” barely survived having as many baddies as it did. Is this just all a set up for a truly messy “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” or the ultimate Spidey movie fans want? Until we see how ‘Amazing 2’ does on May 2, 2014 weigh in below.
