‘NINJA TURTLES’ CO-CREATOR not happy with Megan Fox as April O’Neil. Well, duh.
Not the most shocking thing in the world. A dude with a brain – who just so happens to be the Ninja Alien Not-Teenager Not-Turtles Things (now) co-creator hates the idea of Megan Fox playing April O’Neil.
Doi!
io9:
A few weeks back Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle producer Michael Bay announced that Megan Fox would be joining the TMNT family. And everyone freaked out including Turtles co-creator Peter Laird. The turtle maker took to his blog to lash out at the decision to cast Fox as April O’Neil in Jonathan Liebesman’s movie.
My only exposure to Megan Fox as an actress is through her role in two “Transformers” movies and the wretched (but happily forgettable) “Jennifer’s Body”. It may not be fair to judge her range of acting skills just from those three movies, but I think it is safe to say that there are probably hundreds of better choices for the role of April O’Neil. Of course, her name has promotional value, and maybe that’s what they want. Who knows? I can’t get myself too worked up about it. — PL
Come on Laird… First, Fox was great in Jennifer’s Body. Second, we love this franchise, but you’re not going to land Meryl Streep for the movie version of a Saturday Morning Cartoon. Hell, we’re more likely to see this movie now that Fox is in it. Would Anna Kendrick or Jane Levy (both rumored to be also auditioning for the part) have made a good April? Sure, but Fox has a lot of great potential as well. Plus maybe she’ll get hit with some ooze and become sexy Splinter, assuming Bay hasn’t cut the ooze like he cut everything else from this move.
