Rumor: Jimmy Olsen is a woman in ‘MAN OF STEEL.’ Heck yeah.

If this rumor is true, it is going to be powerful enough to shatter the scrotum of women-fearing fanboys. There is a good chance that there ain’t no Jimmy Olsen in Man of Steel, with the movie opting to go for a female equivalent. Jenny. Here is hoping. Man of Steel doesn’t seem to give a fuck about diddling the Kal-El conventions, and I find it more intriguing due to that. An African-American Perry? Word. A red headed Lois Lane? Double word. A female Jimmy Olsen? Triple-combo-something? (I didn’t know where I was going with that.)

Comic Book Movie noticed that IMDb lists Buller as playing a character named “Jenny Olsen,” with no listing for Jimmy Olsen in sight. IMDb isn’t always 100% accurate, but they get things right more often than not. Supporting this theory is a scene from the latest trailer, which shows Buller running away from an explosion with Laurence Fishburne, who plays Perry White. If this woman isn’t Man of Steel‘s Jimmy Olsen replacement, she seems at least to be a Daily Planet staffer of some sort.

It’s worth pointing out, too, that director Zack Snyder has already shown a willingness to make unconventional casting choices with this movie. Amy Adams, who plays Lois Lane, caused a bit of a stir when she stepped out in red hair instead of the more traditional brown. More drastically, the selection of Fishburne as Perry attracted some attention because the character has typically been portrayed as caucasian across comic books, television shows, cartoons, and films.
