Saturn’s dark side will haunt you. No force lightning though. Get it? Dark side?

Check out Saturn’s back-lit donkey! It is a wondrous image captured by the necro-astronomers, far beyond the pale of our Earth’s purview. I promise. I’m not making this up.

Gizmodo:

Do not adjust your monitors. Saturn hasn’t suddenly changed color; it’s just that Cassini’s latest shot of the ringed planet was taken in such low-light conditions that you’re looking at more than just the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum.

This image was captured by Cassini while the satellite was in Saturn’s shadow. The sun provides the back lighting, while Cassini captured infrared, red and ultraviolet components of the spectrum. The result isn’t an accurate representation of Saturn’s true color, then—but it still looks stunning. [NASA/JPL-Caltech/Space Science Institute]
