The Dude’s High 5s: Cameos

When pulled off, cameos are great.  Its fun to see an actor let their hair down and do a small role in a film.  It humanizes them, and injects humor into a scene.  Its like a private joke to be share between the audience and the casting director.  So here we go, my 5 favorite cameos.

5. Ed Norton (The Invention of Lying)

The Invention of Lying is a fun movie by British Steve Carell.  It takes place in a world where no one can lie and everyone says the unabashed, brutal truth.  The movie itself is filled with cameos, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jason Bateman, Jeffery Tambor, but none better than Ed Norton as a crooked Boston cop.  Click here for the scene … damn embedding disabled!

4. Christopher Walken (Pulp Fiction)

Do you honestly know anyone who doesn’t know this scene?  Its been many, many years since I watched pulp fiction.  A grievous crime, I know.  However, This scene is clear in my mind as if I watched the movie yesterday.

3. Alec Baldwin (Glengary Glen Ross)

A few friends and I were discussing this scene this past weekend.  I questioned whether or not it was a cameo.  Was it too long?  Can you get nominated for an academy award for a cameo?  Ultimately I decided that my friends were right, it is indeed a cameo.  Alec Baldwin sure can play an asshole.  I wonder how he does it.

2. Charlton Heston (Wayne’s World 2)

For me, Wayne’s World 1 and 2 are two of the best comedies ever.  They are far and away the best movies made based on SNL skits.  In my opinion this one scene elevates Wayne’s World 2 above the first one.

1. Bill Murray (Zombieland)

I almost don’t want to spoil this one, but its been out there for a while now.  If you haven’t seen it, that your problem, not mine.

So what cameos tickle your fancy?
