Curiosity Rover premiering will.i.am’s’ new song on Mars. We’re already ruining that planet.
Sweet fuck, Ray. You were right. Your boy Jeff Spender was correct as well. No sooner have we set down some impressive roving capabilities onto the ground of Mars have we begun sullying it. Debuting shitty pop culture vomit such as will.i.am on Mars? If we’re going no standards let me read some OL prose upon Bradbury’s landing.
LAIST:
Pasadena’s NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory has been making headlines as of late with its recent successful Mars Curiosity rover landing and“Mohawk guy” Bobak Ferdowsi. But JPL has yet another enterprising event planned that will surely make musical history.
As part of an educational event, musician will.i.am’s new song, “Reach for the Stars,” will make its debut on Mars tomorrow. How is this possible? The Curiosity rover will broadcast the tune from the surface of the Red Planet.
Members of JPL’s Curiosity team will teach students about the Mars mission and the technology behind the song’s interplanetary transmission starting at 1 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, August 28, at JPL. The song, which details will.i.am’s “passion for science, technology and space exploration,” will then blast its beats into Mars’ thin atmosphere, according to a release.
The Black Eyed Peas member’s i.am.angel Foundation will also announce a new science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics initiative featuring NASA assets, like the Curiosity rover, on Tuesday.
