Producer Says It’s ‘Patently False’ Ford Is In Talks For ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel. Phew.
As Forrest Gump once said, “Rumors is as rumors does, boogers, cliche pop culture reference, tee-hee pee joke”. We should have recalled that line from that movie over the weekend, when it rumors about Harrison Ford appearing in the Blade Runner sequel came to boil. It ain’t happening folks! Probably.

Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Harrison Ford was in talks to return as Deckard in Ridley Scott’s brewing “Blade Runner” sequel. The news came as a major shock, notably because when the project was first announced, it was said it would be “a total reinvention.” Well, for those who were confused and concerned over Ford returning, rest easy, because it turns out those reports were erroneous.
Deadline caught up with producer Andrew Kosove, who flat out put the kibosh on any chance of Ford suiting back up. “It is absolutely patently false that there has been any discussion about Harrison Ford being in ‘Blade Runner,’ ” Kosove said. “To be clear, what we are trying to do with Ridley now is go through the painstaking process of trying to break the back of the story, figure out the direction we’re going to take the movie and find a writer to work on it. The casting of the movie could not be further from our minds at this moment.”And that actually makes a lot of sense. Back in August, Kosove stated that since a script still needed to be written, getting the movie in front of cameras was still realistically 18 months away, making a 2013 start the earliest it could possibly happen. And when we spoke to Kosove in December, he said an announcement about the writer was pending but it still hasn’t yet come out. So this is still a long way off. That said, there is one clear mandate — this movie will be entering the “Blade Runner” world fresh.
“What Ridley does in ‘Prometheus’ is a good template for what we’re trying to do,” Kosove said while still leaving the door ever so slightly open, for Ford to possibly, maybe make some kind of appearance. “In advance of knowing what we’re going to do, I supposed you could say yes, he could. But I think it is quite unlikely,” he said. So yeah, don’t bank on it.
Not completely shot dead, but I am resting easier.
